Vivek Joshi - Startups, Stock Markets and Social Change
This is my personal website for people to quickly get to know what I am about. My motivation for starting off on my own was primarily by a sense of adventure and the thrill of taking the road less travelled. And, of course, the opportunity. A college classmate, Jitan Sahni asked me if I was interested in starting something with him and I said yes. So that was that. After starting out in 1997, we found ourselves bang in the middle of the dot com boom of 1999 and the famous crash in 2000. We raised some angel money in April 2000. As most people who come into money suddenly tend to do, we made mistakes. But we learnt fast, changed and interestingly survived.
When we were trying to get back on their feet, I came across a very insighful quotation which changed my approach to business forever. It read:
“Sales is vanity
Profit is sanity
Cash is reality.”
Then again a couple of years back a couple of books by Robert Kiyosaki, “Rich Dad Poor Dad” & “Rich Dad’s CASHFLOW Quadrant” challenged my notions about entrepreneurship and life in general.
In April 2011, I quit my day job as a working founder and have since spent my time enjoying the feeling of not having to work for a living. I am trying to make the most of it as I am not sure how much longer I will have this luxury.
Over the past three years, three things have managed to grab my attention, interest and therefore time: Startups, Stock Markets and Social Change. Besides my two sons who take up most of my time.
